Description
Cracked and burred walnut oriental coffee/occasional table with turned ends and hand carved decorative legs/stretchers, in excellent condition.
Features a solid walnut top, which is unusual as walnut furniture is generally only a veneer (to stop it cracking/splitting).
The walnut top is tightly bordered in rosewood, to keep the solid walnut in place and stop it stretching, giving an unusual and attractive surface look. The legs are hand carved in a floral motif and, together with the stretchers, are a different wood again - probably some oriental softwood that's easier to hand carve. Consequently the table comprises three different oriental woods, each serving to complement each other, and is both solid and heavy.
Ageing has merely added to it's character. It's not just functional but beautiful.
As a unique oriental table when originally purchased it was very expensive. This is not a mass produced piece for the UK market, which is readily apparent when you see the quality or try to find another like it.
Measures 38cm high, 38cm deep and 93cm wide.
Asking £60.
