Description
The Fringes of Edinburgh, John Geddie, illustrated by Arthur Wall, London and Edinburgh: W. & R. Chambers, 1926. Geddie traces the ample outer aspect of the City of Edinburgh from Cramond in the North in an anti-clockwise journey down the west of the city to the southern extensions and villages, arriving at Niddrie with its mining villages and then following the Niddrie Burn through New Craighall, Joppa and Portobello to the far eastern estate of Brunstane. From here the Port of Leith is covered until we head back West again along the Northern coast of Newhaven and Trinity towards Granton and back to Cramond. The book includes splendid illustrations by Arthur Walls and period information about peripheral areas, including the Cammo Estate with it’s grotto and bridge over the River Almond, the Corstorphine sulphurous spa and coach excursions for its healing properties and the Burdiehouse Limekilns to the south.
Dustjacket although "complete" shows wear, tears, small areas of loss and sellotape repairs to reverse. Boards and spine are in good order. There is no printing date I can see but book has a neat ink dedication to a blank endpaper dated Hogmanay 1926. Internally the book is in clean and tightly bound used condition. Overall in good order but please be aware book is 90 years old and will show signs of age and use.
